Bioinputs help Reduce Dependence on Imported Fertilizers in Brazil

The dependence on imported fertilizers remains one of the main bottlenecks of Brazilian agribusiness. According to data from the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade, and Services, Brazil imports approximately 85% of the fertilizers used in agriculture, which exposes the producer to foreign exchange fluctuations and logistical costs that affect global supply networks.
According to Comex Stat, during the first half of 2026, Brazil imported 18.30 million tons of fertilizers, down 5.9% compared to 2025. The average price of the raw materials was US$ 383 per ton, up 16.8% compared to 2025.
One of the main strategies to combat the rising prices is the use of bioinputs which help to reduce the dependence in imported fertilizers. Data from CropData and CropLife Brazil indicate that the sector moved R$ 6.2 billion of product in 2025 and approximately 85% of the bioinputs used in Brazil are manufactures by companies in Brazil, which reduces dependence on international supply chains.
Bioinputs are valuable allies in nutrient optimization and biological control, but they will not replace the use of fertilizers. They improve the efficiency of what is already applied, improving soil biology so plants have better uptake of available nutrients.
