Conab Releases First Assessment of Brazil's 2026/27 Growing Season

Author: Michael Cordonnier/Soybean & Corn Advisor, Inc.

On Thursday, October 15th, Conab released their first official assessment of Brazil's 2026/27 grain production. For soybeans, they are estimating a production of 181.6 million tons on a planted acreage of 49.3 million hectares (121.7 million acres) with a nationwide yield of 3,683 kg/ha (54.8 bu/ac).

Brazil's 2026/27 soybean acreage is expected to increase 1.4% compared to last year, which would be the smallest increase in two decades. The expected soybean yield of 54.8 bu/ac is down 0.4 bu/ac from last year's record level. If realized, a production of 181.6 million tons would represent an increase of 0.7% over last year's production of 180.4 million tons.

For corn, Conab is estimating a production of 148.0 million tons for the combined three corn crops in Brazil. If verified, it would represent an increase of 2.4% compared to 2025/26. Improved corn prices are expected to encourage Brazilian farmers to increase their corn acreage. The first corn crop acreage is estimated at 4.54 million hectares (11.2 million acres), up 10.7% from last year. The safrinha corn acreage is estimated at 18.48 million hectares (45.6 million acres), up 3.7% from last year. Brazil's third corn crop is estimated at 0.677 million hectares (1.6 million acres), up 0.4%. While the corn acreage is expected to increase, yields for all three crops are expected to be below those of last year.

Conab will release monthly crop reports of the 2026/27 growing season through September 2027.
